7.4 Good Role Models Project

Goals

1. Learn about inspiring people who have made the world better.

2. Practice webpage design and layout in Google Sites.

3. Create an attractive Canva banner (2000 × 400 pixels).

4. Use media literacy skills to find and evaluate credible sources.

5. Cite information correctly in MLA format using a citation generator like MyBib.

Steps

In this assignment you will create a new CHILD webpage, titled "Role Models," and include media about at least 3 role models:

• One from this website list of Artificial Intelligence / AI leaders.
• One from a list PD parents have suggested (see below.)
• One you choose.

1. Create a New Page

   • Open your Google Site in EDIT mode.

   • Create a PARENT page titled, "Projects."

   • Under your Projects page, create a child page titled “Role Models.”

2. Design a Banner

   • Create a custom banner in Canva (2000 × 400 pixels).

   • Watch this tutorial on creating and inserting banners in Google Sites:

3. Add a Descriptive Introduction

   • Below your banner, write a short paragraph explaining:

     • Why role models are important

     • Why and how you selected your three individual role models

4. Choose Your Three Role Models

   • One must come from our parent-recommended list:

     • Malala Yousafzai
     • Jane Goodall
     • Jack Hanna
     • Harriet Tubman
     • Mahatma Ghandi
     • Dr. Ramwilas J. Rathi
     • A role model one of your parents / guardians suggest to you
   • A SECOND role model from this website list of Artificial Intelligence / AI leaders.

   • A THIRD role model of your choice.

OPTIONAL: Use this Flint AI Activity to brainstorm possible role models to research.

1. For Each Role Model:

   • Add a photo and include the person’s name as a subtitle.

   • Write a short paragraph (3–5 sentences) describing who they are and why they are a good role model.

   • Cite your source in MLA format using a citation generator like MyBib.

   • Make your citation URL a live / "clickable" link to the original source.

   • Include at least ONE informative video about each person.

     • You can use Discovery Education, PBS LearningMedia, Biography.com, or YouTube.

     • If you cannot embed a video from Discovery Education, PBS, or another source, include:

       • A screenshot of the video thumbnail, and

       • A clickable link to the video page / video.

   • Video resources:

     • Discovery Education

     • Sci Girls Profiles (PBS Learning Media)

     • Biography.com

2. Page Layout

   • Use a multi-column content block so each role model has an image beside their text.

   • Keep your fonts consistent and easy to read.

   • Use color and layout creatively but clearly.

3. OPTIONAL: Use AI to edit and format your text sentences / paragraphs on your webpage. This Flint AI activity can help.
4.  Citations
   1. At the bottom of your webpage, create a text box for "Citations" or "References" or "Works Cited."
   2. Format that title as a HEADING.
   3. Cite at least 3 of the sources you used for your role models correctly in MLA format using a citation generator like Zbib or MyBib.
   4. Paste those MLA citations at the bottom of your page.
   5. Make each citation link CLICKABLE. (click after the link in Google Sites, then press the SPACE bar.)
   6. AI: If you choose to use AI include a SHARED Google Doc (anyone with the link can VIEW)

Turn In

1. Publish your new page on your Google Site.

2. Copy the DIRECT LINK to your Role Models webpage:

3. In Canvas, click Reply or Submit Assignment.

4. Paste this sentence in the text box:

   I created a “Role Models” page under my Projects page on my Google Site.

5. Link your published page to the words 'a "Role Models" page' in Canvas.

6. Submit!
